Greetings to all you guys! This is going to be my very first post on this newly created wordpress blog. I’m excited to be able to write at this private heaven of mine, which I bought not so long ago. I haven’t been able to update the main site, I’m still working on some details like the layout and since I wish it to be more dynamic than my past jobs, which have been quite flat and motionless, I’ll be doing some research first. So this time, I’m taking a little bit of my time (and it would seem money as well, since I’ve already paid for a year) to make the site. I’m going to re-structure my Web ideology and start with new horizons which I never dare to explore before, hence the reason why I’m thrilled to be able to write this first post here even though, this post has a very high chance of never ever be read.
Now, I wish you to know my intentions about this site and this whole “-4″ thingy. First of all, I came with the idea out of nowhere. I was basically surfing the web and thought: “Hey wouldn’t it be cool if I had my own website with forums, blogs and stuff like that? Maybe even polish my already decaying photoshop skills…” And so, I continue to look out for prices and hosting services that would allow me to do what I wished to. I had a bad experience with a former hosting company, which name I think they even changed. It was only 36$ a year and I thought it was a pretty good deal, so I bought it! I started my own design site (which didn’t work out very well to be honest) and just 4 months later, some cool guy decides to exploit the host with a c-panel bug and hell went unleashed. I had a month rollback (a month which was one of my most active ones) because these guys didn’t backup our information properly.
I lost the interest on my ever dying site and moved on with my life. It’s been already 3 years since I bought that domain. Anyway, I was looking for prices and I came to remember about a hosting service a friend told me. FatCow. I checked out the prices and it was supposed to be only 66$ a year. So I thought it wasn’t that bad, I might reconsider it sometime later. I just needed to check out if I could do a normal payment through PayPal or my VISA as I’m not very well informed on e-shopping. So I was filling the form blanks and lost the interest half way there. I kept googling, doing homework, checking facebook, etc. I was then checking my e-mail when I see a letter from someone at FatCow. It seems they send reports of undone forms and send email back to them asking if you had any problems with the form process. Even better, they offer compensation for the problems, a $31 reduction.
A smile drew on my face, as I quickly rushed to buy my domain and hosting for a year. “Great, I’m getting unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth and all for the same prices as my previous host!”. Sadly, the facade didn’t last long enough, as by the end of my purchase I had a 71$ on my check out. It seems they add some other services for 10$, SSH protection and some other nifty functions. I was doubtful if I should remove any of them, so I left them anyway. I was so excited about buying a domain and hosting that I didn’t care about the price and bought it anyway. So, I had it all. Domain and a very good hosting service (so far, so good). However, time is hard to come by lately. School is a very demanding process and these aren’t exactly the most cheerful days of my life, so it’s kind of hard to focus on the site.
I must be boring you by now, who would like to know all this non-sense about a very poor choice, if you are still reading this that is. This might not even be read and I already wrote a monologue, shame on me. To the point now! The whole -4 experience is supposed to be a community project, a place to chat, maybe make some friends, share some point of views, discussions, tutorials, etc. In the next days, I’ll be sure to keep you guys (who ever might be reading this holy lost scroll of rants) updated about the status of the main site and the progress of the whole -4 concept. I’ll be updating the main site so it can show this blog and maybe even add some sort of chat so we can bounce off ideas there.
I’ll be delighted if you can call me Fourth or Alex. For now, this is all I can write. I hope I can find some time to keep on working on the site! Thanks for reading this and have a good one!
